Pepper Gel or Pepper Spray? Which one is the right one?

Which one should you choose?  Pepper Gel or Pepper Spray?  They both have the active ingredient Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) a derivative of cayenne pepper.  Scoville Heat Units (SHU) measures the effectiveness of a self defense spray.  Oleoresin Capsicum is where the potency or hotness of the pepper sprays.  Most pepper sprays have 2 million (SHU) where a jalapeno pepper only has a 5000 (SHU).

An attacker will pretty much stop dead in his tracks when sprayed with a short half second burst directly into the facial area.  Self defense sprays swell the capillaries in the eyes which in turn causes temporary blindness.  Other effects include difficulty breathing, extreme coughing and severe burning sensations to the sprayed area.

While using the Fogger style pepper spray it may tend to have a potential blowback depending on the wind direction.  Aerosol pepper sprays if used within tight and confined quarters can also cause cross-contamination.  Take this into consideration while making your choice in a self defense spray.

While using pepper gels you can expect a longer distance range of up to 25 feet which in turn will increase your overall safety.  Pepper gel will shoot in the form of a tight stream and as it reaches its destination it applies to the target as sticky glue.  Removing this gel is a very difficult feat.  Blowback and cross-contamination is also eliminated.  Pepper gels can also be used indoors as this style doesn’t throw off fumes.

While using a TASER, Stun gun or Firearm, Pepper gel can also be used as it is non-flammable.  This will allow you an extra added weapon in case you should need to use additional means of protection.

Pepper Gel and Pepper spray have many differences but yet are very much alike.  Pepper gel is very affordable, easily carried and just makes plain sense to carry it.  Which ever form of self defense spray you should choose to carry they are all good.  Keep in mind that these sprays will only work as good as your aim is so practice is a key component.

Always remember to make sure you are carrying your self defense sprays or whatever type of weaponry you own.  If you don’t carry it, it can’t help you.
